Silk & Lace

11:00

Now that the holidays are over, I mentioned in one of my previous posts that I will be sticking to a schedule and posting consistently throughout the year. I'm very happy to notify you all that I will posting every Saturday at 11:00 AM (PST). As of now, I can only do one post per week as it's what works best with my schedule. I really hope that the content I produce and share is of some sort of value to you.

My previous post, Dear 2016, surprisingly gained a lot of attention from you all. I am very touched by those of you who reached out and started a conversation about your own personal experiences with me on my social media platforms. I am beyond honoured to be able to have these conversations and am grateful for all your kind words. I want to thank you all for taking out some time from your busy days to read and appreciate my content. Without you guys, I wouldn't be where I am at this very moment pursuing my passions. We have a small, but strong family here. I hope we all continue to grow and work towards our goals together to achieve all the great things the world has to offer.

Now before I start getting super emotional, let's jump into the actual post!

As of late, there's been a huge layering trend going on. I must say that this is probably one of my favourite trends so far.

My most favourite layering combination is the slip dress and t-shirt combination. This entire trend has got me trying to play around with some of my older pieces and layer them together to make my outfits more personal and unique. After a little bit of hunting, I was able to pair some pieces together to achieve this look!

We're going to start off with talking about our main layering piece, the slip dress. I was fortunate enough to find this silk slip at H&M for only $15 CAD! Last time I checked, the dress is still being sold at stores; so if you're into this look, I highly recommend getting your hands on this piece!

In terms of quality, I would say for the price, you get a decent amount of quality. My only complaint about this dress is that it creases easily. If you aren't willing to iron it or creasing generally bothers you, I would recommend buying something of higher quality (just keep in mind that you may have to broaden your budget if you want higher quality). Other than that, I would say that this dress is a solid layering piece.

The white lace shirt I am wearing is one of the older pieces in my closet. I bought it almost 5 years ago from Forever 21. Generally, you want to be careful with lace because if you were to blindly throw it in the wash, you could risk ruining your clothing piece. What I like about the shirt I'm wearing is that it doesn't get destroyed in the wash!

When shopping for a lace top, you want to steer clear of low quality "stretchy" lace as that's the kind that will be completely destroyed in the wash. Also, take into consideration what you'll be wearing underneath the lace as it may influence the type and size of the shirt you want to buy.

If you think lace isn't for you, then even wearing a solid coloured shirt or any kind of shirt for that matter will work. The beauty of layering is that it allows you to pair different pieces together, so don't be afraid to do so.

For accessories, I wanted to venture out of my comfort zone and try out some chokers. As someone who prefers to wear more fine and minimalistic jewelry, the choker I'm wearing for this outfit definitely feels like a statement piece (well at least for me, you guys may think differently).

Despite feeling hesitant about chokers, I actually really like this specific one. I bought it at my university when there was an open-market going on in campus; many small business owners were able to sell and expose their products to students. I especially like how the bow adds a more "cute" feeling to my entire outfit and helps differentiate it from other outfits that may be of similar style.

If you really wanted to, I think it would be a cool little project to DIY this choker. That way you can adjust the bow to your liking and add charms that can help you express yourself.

Now you must be wondering what kind of shoes did I pair with this outfit. Well, I would pair it with some comfortable Chelsea boots (no surprise there). The reason why I didn't feature an image of the boots is because I've already done so in previous posts and felt that it was kind of repetitive if I did so again. If you still want to see the boots in future posts to get a better visual of the outfit, please let me know so that I can remember to take pictures of them when shooting my other outfits.

Anyways, that's pretty much it for the outfit! It's pretty simple, but has some nice texture added through the lace. I hope you guys get some inspiration from this post and recreate it using some of your own pieces. I'll see you all next Saturday with a new post; so until then take care!
