Closet Staple: Boyfriend Jeans

Comfort is key. Most people have this perception that the only comfortable pants to wear are sweatpants and leggings, but this is not true! You can find jeans comfortable too.
I’ve always loved denim. Before discovering boyfriend jeans I always wore skinny jeans, however as time progressed I started to grow out of them and opted to wear something a little more comfortable. I did not wear jeans for a long period of time until one day while browsing through one of my favourite boutiques, I found a pair of boyfriend jeans. These boyish jeans were initially not the most appealing looking jeans to me, but after trying them on I knew what the hype was about.
Boyfriend jeans have become an essential piece of clothing in my wardrobe as they are very versatile and comfortable. You can dress these jeans up or down depending on your taste. I have put together 3 outfits of how I wear my favourite pair of boyfriend jeans from Forever 21.
My first outfit is more on the edgier side. I usually wear this on warmer days when I'm feeling a little more confident and want to add an edge to my style.
The bralette I'm wearing is from Guess. I usually don't buy a lot of brand name clothes, however I had to buy this bralette because of it's beautiful lace detailing. Another plus about this bralette was the fitting; I tend to struggle with finding crop tops and bralettes that fit will to my body type, however I was pretty lucky to find this one as it practically hugs my body!
The leather jacket I am wearing is from Forever 21. I was lucky enough to get this jacket on sale for only $20.00. Besides the price, my biggest buying point of this jacket was the faux fur detailing on the front. I like the extra texture to the jacket as it adds a little more depth to my entire outfit.
As for shoes, I decided to wear my Chelsea boots. This specific pair are from a shoe store called Browns. The 2-inch heel adds some height without hurting my feet. I like how these boots help slim down my legs from the loose boyfriend jeans, bringing the entire outfit together.
Depending on where I am going, I either pair this outfit with any kind of black leather/ faux-leather bag. Obviously any fabric bag that is black can go well with this outfit, but I personally think a leather bag does a good job at keeping the outfit sleek and edgy.
My second outfit is inspired by the current 70's style trend. This cute outfit can be worn for any casual event; whenever I want to put a little more effort into my look for school, I go with this outfit as it's very comfortable. (Sorry that I am holding my phone in this picture, I got a phone-call when shooting for this look and decided to multi-task).
I accidentally deleted the pictures of the shirt from my camera. However, this doesn't mean I will not be talking about it! The white ribbed turtle neck I am wearing is from Forever 21. I bought this shirt one size up so that it fit a little more loose as I feel like whenever I wear a tight-fitting turtleneck, I look like a teacher. By all means I don't think everyone looks this way, this is only how I feel when I wear such pieces.
What makes this outfit "old-school" yet cute is the hair-tie. I found this hair-tie from a mall kiosk. I instantly fell in love with it because it looks so damn cute. If you know me, you'd know that I don't wear many "cutesy" outfits, especially acessories. However, I feel like the hair-tie works well with the theme I'm going for as well as bringing the entire thing together.
Going along with the theme and feel of this outfit, it would be a crime not to match it with my white Converse Chucks. At first I wanted to wear black boots with this outfit, however I noticed that these Chucks added a little more "lightness" to the outfit. Another plus side about wearing Chucks are that they are very comfortable, making it very easy for me to move around my university's campus.
My final outfit is probably the outfit I wear most often. Again this is something I wear everyday for school or any other casual outing.
The black crop top I am wearing is again from Forever 21. Honestly, there isn't anything special about this shirt, it's just your basic shirt that can be found anywhere. The vest I am wearing is also from Forever 21. I love this vest especially because it matches anything and reaches all the way down to my ankles. As the vest reaches down to my ankles, I wear my Chelsea boots because it elongates my legs, making me feel a little more taller.
Hopefully these outfits give you a little more inspiration for styling your own boyfriend jeans! Remember at the end of the day, whatever you wear should make you feel comfortable. If you don't feel comfortable with what you're wearing, you'll end up worrying about how you look for the entire day. So remember, COMFORT IS KEY.
