Mom jeans have been making a breakthrough this season with it's comfortable yet vintage-like fit. A comfortable pair of quality jeans have to be one of my favourite things to wear on a day-to-day basis. This post is going to be more about finding and purchasing a good pair of mom jeans rather than a personal style post (do not worry, I will be featuring mom jeans in some of OOTD posts in the near future).
If anyone is curious about what I am wearing in the picture above, I am wearing a basic black t-shirt from H&M, and a fluffy burgundy cardigan that is also from H&M. The mom jeans that I am showcasing in this post are from Forever 21 (if anyone was wondering, the jeans are a size 26). Also, as I always get questions about what lipstick shade I wear, I am wearing Vampira from Kat Von D's liquid lipstick line.

As a "shorter" individual, I usually struggle with finding a good fit of jeans that aren't too long. With my past experience with finding a good pair of mom jeans, I noticed that although they are high waisted, most of the ones I've tried on are far too long for my height. Honestly, in terms of length, I still haven't found a good pair of mom jeans, however I do prefer to always pin-roll my jeans above my ankles because I like the look of it. If you too struggle with jeans length, I suggest that you don't get discouraged and continue to explore different stores and jeans. If you have no luck then pin-rolling or even get them hemmed could be a solution. It is important to find a good length of jeans because if they're too long you may risk ruining the bottom of your jeans (unless you like the worn-out bottom jeans look, then by all means get a longer pair of jeans).
Another thing that is very important about buying a good pair of mom jeans (or any type of jeans for that matter) is the waist size. I guess this one is a no brainer, but I have come across some people who buy jeans with a very big waist size. You want to find a comfortable waist size for your jeans, I personally like a waist size that is not too tight and slightly loose because I can't "breathe" with tight jeans on. When I was buying the mom jeans in the picture above, I noticed that the fit was a little awkward for me; what I mean is that my hips are wide while my waist is small, making it difficult for me to find a good waist size. I am guilty of purchasing a pair of mom jeans with a bigger waist size because when I sized down from a size 26, the jeans felt very uncomfortable and tight around my hip area. Although the waist is a little too big, I do compromise and just wear a belt with my jeans. The purpose behind me sharing my own experience is to emphasize how important it is to find a fit that feels comfortable. It's good to have an idea of what kind of look you want your mom jeans to give off. If you want something loose and laid back then maybe a bigger waist size will work for you, or if you want a more fitted and tighter look, then you'll want to get a smaller waist size.
Don't let me be the dictator and tell you what kind of fit of mom jeans you should get. I just want to share my knowledge and experience with you guys so that you get a better idea of what fit you're looking for. If there is one thing I want to hammer into your heads, it's that comfort is key. I know that I say this in almost all my blog posts, but it is such a small yet important thing to keep in your mind when you're buying any type of clothing item.
I think mom jeans are now one of my favourite jeans because they're loose and comfortable just like boyfriend jeans (if you want some style inspiration for boyfriend jeans, you may find my "Closet Staple: Boyfriend Jeans" post helpful). Some people can't tell the difference between boyfriend jeans and mom jeans. Mom jeans are high waisted with a relaxed fit. Boyfriend jeans just have the relaxed fit. I think because everyone is so crazy about boyfriend jeans, they tend to forget about mom jeans, hence why I wanted to show a little love for them.
