Not Your Grandpa's Shirt

This week, I decided to share one of my go-to outfits for this summer. Obviously this outfit won't fit everyone's taste, however I very much like how comfortable yet stylish it is. I also feel like this outfit has my own personal touch as the prints and textures used in this outfit does a good job in describing my own style.

The first thing I want to talk about for this outfit is my necklace. It compliments the print of the dress I am wearing. I also really like its raw texture as well as the general shape and look of it. I sadly am unsure where this necklace is from as it was a gift from my mom. However for anyone in the Vancouver area, I recommend checking out the public market and crystal shop at Granville island as they carry very unique and affordable crystal jewelry.

Ever since I was young, I've always liked crystal jewelry such as this necklace because the general meaning of the stones fascinated me. I know that some believe that crystals have some sort of healing power, which is something I am very interested in learning. If any of you enjoy crystals as much or even more than I do, please shoot me a DM on Instagram and share some of your knowledge!

The next and main part of this outfit is the dress. I bought this dress a year ago from Joe Fresh; anyone who lives in Canada can find the brand at their local Loblaw store (such as Superstore). The fit of the dress is very laid back as there is a lot of room to move around. A major buying point for me was the fact that this dress has pockets! The print of the dress reminds me of Fiji, which happens to be where my parents are from. The reason why I titled this outfit "Not Your Grandpa's Shirt" is because the dress is very similar to "Bula" shirts sold in Fiji and typically worn by men; I personally could see my grandpa wearing a shirt with a very similar print to this one.

For shoes I wanted to keep it a little classy with these flats from Topshop. I like the general look of them as they can spice up your outfit. I will warn you though that if you have wider feet, you may have to size up because the pointed toes can squish your feet. Overall, these flats are pretty comfortable.

An alternative to these flats would be some black chunky sandals as they compliment the outfit well too. I have already done a post on my own pair of chunky sandals that can be found here.

Last, but not least are my other accessories. I thought that my black fedora from Forever 21 brought the entire outfit together; I do believe the hat is more of a statement piece as it definitely turns heads (at least where I live it does). I also decided to wear my glasses with the outfit; my glasses are from Michael Khors for everyone who has been asking me what brand my frames are. To complete the entire look I also wore my silver ear cuff that I bought from Claires. I love how this ear cuff instantly adds more of an edge to my look.

And there you have it! This is definitely an outfit you will find me wearing a lot this summer. I hope that this outfit gives you a little inspiration to play around with accessories and prints. We always seem to lean towards wearing dark and solid pieces of clothing, however you can always change things up with some unique prints!

Stay tuned as starting this week I will be posting more frequently, sharing more of my favourite summer outfits.
